Tonight was Pax's very first Celebration of Learning Night at his school. As an Expeditionary Learning School, this is a major part of the curriculum and a very big deal. P said he wanted to dress "fancy" and he chose to wear suit.
He worked hard on his project and it showed in his pride presenting it to everyone who passed by - strangers and all. It also showed in the work itself. It is mind blowing just how far he has come and how much he has grown, learned and developed. At the beginning of the year, he was ready to read but didn't know how. He could write his name, but only in very squiggly capitol letters and the only drawings he did were of anacondas (which basically amounted to scribbles with a head)
Tonight he presented a book. A book he wrote. Complete with a table of contents and a glossary. It was chock full of facts and detailed scientific drawings with labels. He had studied his expert insect through and through and could easily answer questions with or without referencing his writings. He was impressive. I marveled at him and the rest of his crew. They learned more about insects than I ever could imagine, and as a result so did we parents tonight. They have all come so far and grown so much. They are readers and writers and scientists. They shared their learning with vigor and joy and I could not be more proud of all of them, but in particular a little fella in a linen suit and blue and orange tie.
Kudos to you, kids. You are ready for the first grade for sure!!
Absolutely amazing!! Thank you for sharing this milestone. Congrats to Pax.
